New York: Her name is synonymous with American TV for many across the world, but talk show queen Oprah Winfrey is known as Mary by her employees.
Employees of Oprah call her `Ms Winfrey` when they`re on the set of The Oprah Winfrey Show in Chicago, but outside, she`s known by the code name Mary, reported New York Post online.
The new detail about the TV mogul was revealed by her unauthorised biographer Kitty Kelley, who had published the controversial book `Oprah: A Biography`.
"That way, when they`re talking about her, and someone overhears the conversation, no one knows they`re referring to Oprah," said Kelley.
Kelley, who did four years of research and 850 interviews, claimed in the book that Oprah had "lesbian affairs" and once had a fling with former TV host John Tesh.
The book claimed that Oprah lied about her past by exaggerating accounts of her poverty and making up instances of sexual abuse.
