Parents ‘mortified’ after tot gives Obama a mouthful in Hawaii

Washington: While Barack Obama laughed off the mouthful of fingers given to him by an 8-month-baby during his visit to the US troops in Hawaii, the tot’s mother said that she was ‘mortified’.

Meredith Wagner and her husband, Capt. Greg Wagner, were smiling for the cameras with their son, Cooper, and the 44th President of the US on Christmas Day when the kid reached up and stuck his tiny fingers in Obama’s mouth.

“I was mortified. I was so embarrassed,” ABC News quoted Meredith as saying on ‘Good Morning America’.

Meredith saw it all happen and reached up to pull Cooper’s hand away from the mouth of the leader of the free world, while her husband smiled straight ahead at the roomful of photographers, ensuring the moment would be captured in perpetuity.

“I actually didn’t even see it until the president had already left,” Capt. Wagner said.

“She had to tell me about it,” he said.

While the mother looked a bit red and embarrassed in the moment, while an amused Obama, a father of two daughters himself, laughed it off.

“He kind of laughed and said that Cooper looked up and saw his big nose and just wanted to get a hold of it,” he said.

“He played it off really well and got a good chuckle,” Capt. Wagner said.

As for the roomful of Secret Service agents guarding the president and first lady Michelle Obama, the Wagners said that even they were not concerned about the incident.

“They didn’t say anything to us.

“It didn’t appear anyone made any movements towards us. They just played it off like the president did,’ he added.
