London: The controversial hat worn by Princess Beatrice at last month’s royal wedding has been sold for a whopping sum of 81,000 pounds in an online auction.
Around 40 bidders competed on eBay to get hold of the flamboyant Philip Treacy headpiece, which sparked controversy among fashionistas following Kate and William``s big day, reports the Daily Mail.
Royal wedding watchers compared the pale pink silk hat to a Turkey Twizzler, a toilet seat and a pretzel and Facebook pages sprung up in its honour, attracting thousands of followers.
Undeterred, Beatrice, the eldest daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, decided to sell off the curious item for charity.
The proceeds from the sale will go to two charities- Unicef and Children in Crisis.
