Sheryl Crow auctions Mercedes for Missouri tornado victims

London: Grammy winning singer Sheryl Crow is set to auction her beloved vintage car to raise funds for victims of the tornado-hit city of Joplin, Missouri.

The 49-year-old singer, who hails from Missouri, has donated her 1959 Mercedes-Benz 190 Sl Roadster to auction house Gooding and Co, saying that the proceeds from the sale will go to help rebuild the devastated city`s schools, reported Contactmusic.

"After the tornado in Joplin I was moved to help rebuild a city so close to where I grew up in Missouri. My hope is that the auction of my 1959 Mercedes-Benz 190 Sl Roadster will bring in funds to help rebuild the schools in the area," she said.

The `Strong Enough` hitmaker, who bought the car in 2005, is estimated to bring in from USD 50,000 to USD 100,000 when it goes under the hammer next month.

Joplin was left ravaged in May after a massive twister ripped through the city and claimed the lives of more than 120 people.
