Special festival for participants of CWG

Agra: Uttar Pradesh Tourism has decided to organize a special festival here for participants and others attending the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.

Coinciding with the duration of the Games, the Festival will showcase the art and crafts of India and sale by over 150 artisans from all over the country.

Briefing the media about the festival, Sudhir Bobde, Commissioner of Agra Division, said the Lalit Kala Akademi of UP will also exhibit art treasures at the festival while a culinary feast would be available for foodies.

Musical soiree and dance programmes would also be held at the open air theatre at Shilpagram, the artisan’s village situated one km east of the Taj Mahal, he said.

However, Agra city presents a dismal picture of dirt and squalor coupled with bad roads.

The main arteries of the city as well as the national highway are full of craters and lumps of coal tar.

With the city drains not cleaned for months and the nullahs flowing back into the city because of the floods in the Kanuna, the stench all around is unbearable.
