With £100 mn abode, Hindujas become Queen’s neighbours

Mumbai: The Hinduja brothers have spent an incredible £100 million on their new abode in the neighbourhood of Queen Elizabeth’s historic Buckingham Palace. The billionaire brothers beat other industrialists and bigwigs who have been vying to showcase their spending power in the English capital. The famous brothers, who collectively have a raked up moolah of £6 billion waited for over five years to restore the mansion that was originally custom-built by King George IV in the 1820s. The palatial abode is divided into four spacious segments with one meant for Srichand, the second for Gopichand based in London, Prakash based in Geneva and Ashok from Mumbai. The mansion also has a swimming pool and a cinema hall. The mammoth mansion has been designed by John Nash and is typically English in terms of its architecture with a dash of Indian art. The property was obtained from Crown estate, owned by Queen Mother. William Gladstone, former British Prime Minister of the 19th century had resided in one of the apartments in the mansion. With marble on the floors, the mansion has a dining hall that can accommodate as many as 30 people at a time. Italian chandeliers adorn the roofs making the mansion literally look like a palace. Talking to a daily, Paddy Pugh, the director of English Heritage in London said, “I can`t think of another domestic restoration project on this scale with buildings of this importance. “Rarely have we seen such opulence allied to such craftsmanship,” Pugh added. The Hindujas, who are known for their automotive plants, banks and petroleum products are also into entertaining high-profile guests like the British Prime Minister and the President of the United States of America. They spent over £40-£50 million to resore the mansion back to its glory and have truly invested in what people call a “dream home”.
