Cheryl raise $27m for charity
London: British pop band Take That and singer Cheryl Cole raised over $27 million for a charity working for disadvantaged children and young people in Britain.
A bevy of British stars, including Cole, Susan Boyle, Kylie Minogue and Sir Tom Jones, performed on BBC TV as part of the annual Children in Need fundraiser, urging viewers to make donations.
More than $27 million was raised by the end of the evening - but organisers are hoping to beat last year`s total of $58.5 million once all the donations are counted.
"In these tough times the millions raised... will make a real difference to thousands of young lives right across the UK. On behalf of the children I would like to thank everyone for their incredible generosity," contactmusic.com quoted Children in Need chief executive David Ramsden as saying.
