New Delhi: British auction house Christie`s Wednesday said it will put late Hollywood icon Elizabeth Taylor`s jewellery, clothes, accessories, decorative arts and memorabilia on display and under the hammer Dec 3-16 at its Rockefeller Center Gallery in New York.
The sale will accompanied by exhibitions and public events around the actress, who died in March at the age of 81.
The auction house will tour the world with her a select showcase of exhibits from her expansive collection of personal belongings and jewellery for three months beginning September to promote the sale.
The tour will visit Moscow, London, Los Angeles, Dubai, Geneva, Paris and Hong Kong.
March Porter, chairman and president of Christie`s (America), said: "Christie`s is honoured to have been entrusted with this important role in celebrating the extraordinary life and legacy of Elizabeth Taylor. The global tour and exhibition of her collection at Christie`s will be a window into the world of a true icon, a rare woman who was at once an international film and fashion star, loving mother, successful businesswoman and generous humanitarian."
In keeping with Taylor`s life-long devotion to humanitarian causes, a portion of proceeds generated by the exhibition admissions, events and publications related to the sale will be donated to The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation (ETAF).
One of Hollywood`s most admired stars, Taylor won two Academy awards - for ‘Butterfield 8’ and ‘Who`s Afraid of Virginia Woolf’.
She was known for movies like ‘National Velvet’, ‘Father of the Bride’, ‘A Place in the Sun’, ‘Giant’, ‘Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’, ‘Cleopatra’ and ‘Suddenly, Last Summer’.
