New Delhi: A 24-hour online sale of art July 20-21 by Saffronart will offer an opportunity to acquire a range of 99 important works on paper by 22 leading contemporary Indian artists between 1950 and 1980.
`99 Modern Paperworks` will include works by leading Indian artists like Tyeb Mehta, VS Gaitonde, F.N. Souza, Nasreen Mohamedi, Arpita Singh and Jogen Chowdhury, the auction house said.
A collection on offer by Souza dates back to the 1950s. It includes his rare drawings in pencil, pastel, ink, chemical alterations on printed magazine paper, water colours and mixed media - illuminating the artist`s mastery over medium and the diversity of his body of work.
The catalogue also includes a 1962 painting by Gaitonde, underlining the artist`s almost ascetic practice, and an untitled 1993 charcoal drawing of a falling figure by Tyeb Mehta.
Among the lots by Akbar Padamsee are two rare mixed-media portraits from "Prophet" series of paintings in the 1950s.
Other highlights include an early charcoal rendering of `Benaras` by Ram Kumar, an interpretation of Krishen Khanna`s seminal painting `The Game II`, and two meticulous pencil drawings by Nasreen Mohamedi.
