Monroe`s `diamond` gown to be auctioned
New York: Marilyn Monroe`s famous long, strapless pink satin gown that wowed audiences in 1953`s "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" is headed for sale in June, the Profiles in History auction house says.
The dress that the late actress wore to sing "Diamonds are a Girl`s Best Friend" could fetch up to USD250,000, the auction house said. There was no mention of the long pink gloves she wore in the scene.
The auction from June 10-12 will also offer the Wicked Witch of the West`s hat from 1939`s "Wizard of Oz", Johnny Depp`s Scissorhands from 1990`s "Edward Scissorhands" and Darth Vader`s light sabre from 1983`s "Return of the Jedi".
Elvis Presley`s clothing and a guitar and Steve McQueen`s shotgun from "The Magnificent Seven" are also on the block.
Monroe`s dress is projected as the most expensive item, Profiles said earlier this month. In 1999, the form-fitting sequined dress Monroe wore to sing a sexy Happy Birthday to then-president John F Kennedy in 1962 fetched USD 1.3 million.
The two of them allegedly had an affair.
