London:A museum dedicated to music legend Ray Charles has opened in Los Angeles to commemorate what would have been the late star`s 80th birthday.

The Ray Charles Memorial Library, comprising of seven galleries in an office-building the star had erected in the inner city Harvard Heights neighbourhood, officially opened last week, reported Contactmusic.

The museum is filled with music and video recordings, memorabilia and the Grammy-winning musician`s personal belongings.

It is run by a non-profit organisation Charles founded in 1986 to help underprivileged kids and the museum is currently only open for school groups. The general public is expected to be allowed entry in 2011.

Charles died of liver cancer in 2004 at the age of 73.
