Bhubaneswar: Orissa-based sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has won a gold medal in the `People`s Choice` category in Moscow for his sand sculpture on Bollywood legend Raj Kapoor.
Pattnaik said that he created the image at the second Moscow World Sand Sculpture Championship 2010 held at Kolomenskoe Museum Reserve from April 28 to May 5.
The theme of the second championship was World Cinema (famous movies from famous directors with famous actors).
"I created an image of Raj Kapoor which won the gold medal in the people`s choice category," he said.
Pattnaik said he was the only artist who was selected from India. Artists from 11 other countries including the United States, Russia, Britain, Italy, Czech Republic, Ukraine, and Spain also created sculptures at the championship, he said.
Pattnaik who is a native of Orissa`s temple city of Puri, 56 km from here, has won several awards in different parts of the world for his sand sculptures.
He also won a special prize at the first world sand sculpture championship in Moscow last year for his 15-feet high sand sculpture of the Taj Mahal.
