Prominent SA artist`s prints stolen
Johannesburg: A gallery manager says four prints by one of South Africa`s best known artists have been stolen.
Taryn Hackett of David Krut Gallery said Wednesday the four small, limited-edition prints by William Kentridge were discovered missing from a drawer earlier this week and police are investigating. She says the prints will be difficult to sell because Kentridge`s prominence will lead potential buyers to question sellers closely.
She could not give an estimate of the prints` value.
Kentridge has drawings, paintings and sculpture in major collections around the world and has branched into the performing arts. He directed a production of Dmitri Shostakovich`s adaptation of "The Nose" at New York`s Metropolitan Opera last year.
One of the missing prints was inspired by "The Nose".
