Veteran actress Shabana Azmi wows Dubai with `Broken Images`

Dubai: Shabani Azmi received a standing ovation from the audience for her stage performance in `Broken Images`, a psychological thriller that brings out the hidden facets of a celebrity writer.

The one-hour single act play has been written by Girish Karnad and directed by Alecque Padamsee. The critically acclaimed play has already been staged in Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Washington, DC. `Broken Images` deals with the insecurities of a writer and her relationship with her intellectually accomplished sister who she feels is having a relationship with her husband. Around 60 shows of `Broken Images` have already been staged all over the world. The play has been produced by Raell Padamsee. "It was a challenging assignment at more than one level. I still do not know whether to empathize with (Malini or Manjula Sharma) the two sisters in the play," Shabana said. A large number of South Asians living in Dubai turned up and gave a standing ovation to the actress after the play. PTI
