New Delhi: Subhash Kapoor, director of `Phas Gaye Re Obama`, a small budget comedy starring Neha Dhupia and Rajat Kapoor, says the film shows the repercussions of the global recession on the world of crime.
"People see the global recession as a phenomena triggering unemployment and fall in market income. But it had a deep impact on everyone and we have taken an initiative to portray this anxiety in a humourous way," said director Subhash Kapoor during the special screening of the film in the
The director also claimed said that the December 3 release is the first film to be made on the economic crisis` effects on the crime world.
"It occurred to me that the late recession which became a global phenomena must have had an impact on the underworld activities as well. Then we hit upon the idea to make a film on this serious subject matter in a rib-tickling manner," he added.
`Phas Gaye...` revolves around a NRI who gets kidnapped by a small gang, which later on entangles others in the crime world as well as a minister. The hilarious climax shows the various groups fighting over the ransom money.
"Film industry over the months has witnessed a spate of box office success of films made on an economical budget which proves that if a film has a great storyline with excellent execution then it is destined to receive a thumbs up
from the audience. This is our inspiration," said Kapoor whose film has been made on a budget of Rs 3 crore.
However, the director believes that we have entered a phase of new wave in cinema and it is not necessary to show a glamorous world in order to impress the audience.
`Phas gaye...` boasts of great performances by the starcast. The central character of the gang leader is played by Sanjay Mishra, Rajat Kapoor plays the NRI, Vijendra Kala as police inspector, Neha Dhupia as the lady `Gabbar Singh` and Amol Gupte as the corrupt minister.
The producer of the film is Ashok Pandey with this being his first production.
Meanwhile, director Kapoor added that his next film `Jaali LLB` is in talks to rope in Shah Rukh Khan as the lead.
