New Delhi: In the past, Irrfan Khan has shown his immense versatility and acting prowess by slipping into various characters like that of an athlete in ‘Paan Singh Tomar’, or as ‘Saajan Fernandez’ in ‘The Lunchbox’. He is back again to surprise his fans with effortless portrayal of a Sikh man yearning for a male child, in his next- ‘Qissa: The Tale of a Lonely Ghost’.
This Punjabi film which is written and helmed by Anup Singh, has Irrfan Khan playing the character of a Sardar named Umber Singh, who is enforced to flee his village at the time of partition in 1947. His obsession to have a male child crosses the line when he decides to raise his fourth new born girl as his son.
Apart from Irrfan Khan, Tisca Chopra, Tillotama Shome, Rasika Dugal etc are a part of this movie based on fresh concept.
This movie was screened in the Contemporary World Cinema section at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. It was there where it won the Netpac Award for World or International Asian Film.
Irrfan Khan as a Sikh, and Tisca Chopra as his submissive wife look quite convincing in their respective roles. While one movie old Tillotama is likely to prove her mettle to act well through this movie.
