`Raajneeti` aims to change the perception of politics: Ajay
Mumbai: After essaying the role of a political enforcer in `Omkara` Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn is all set to play the role of a politician in Prakash Jha`s `Raajneeti`, which he says will change the way people see our leaders.
"I think the perception of politics will change with Raajneeti.... in both positive and negative ways.. but more in a negative way," Ajay told reporters without divulging more details about the actual plot of the yet to be released film.
"In `Omkara`, I had played a `General`, a political enforcer of a gang that carries out crimes for a local politician... in `Yuva`, I was a student leader and now in `Raajneeti`, I am in the system," he said.
"This character that I play has no resemblances to any politician in real. I play the role of `Karna`, who is on the wrong side... and knows that he could be on the right side but decides to keep a promise and stay there. He does politics only because he has to," he said.
Ajay is also quick to clarify that the movie has not been modelled on any particular politician or party.
"It does not portray any Indian politician, political party or any incident in the past or present. It is a high drama with politics as a background."
On whether he emulated any real-life politician to get into the skin of his character, Ajay replied in negative.
"Whatever little understanding or knowledge I have of politics, I have followed that," the actor, who has established his merit in serious roles in films like `Gangajal` and `Apaharan`, said.
`Raajneeti`, a modern day take on the `Mahabharata` in a political setting, releases on June 4 with an ensemble cast of Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Manoj Bajpai, Arjun Rampal, Nana Patekar and Naseeruddin Shah.
