Mumbai: Salman`s big Eid release ‘Dabangg’, which opened to full houses across the country last Friday, is reportedly set to overtake Hindi cinema`s biggest blockbuster, going by the opening weekend figures. The film has grossed Rs 14.5 cr on the first day surpassing Aamir Khan’s ‘3 Idiots’, which bagged Rs 13 cr last year.
‘3 Idiots’ earned a total net of Rs 41 crore over its opening weekend. ‘Dabangg’, as things stand right now, is set to make the cash registers ringing with even experts predicting that film should do a business of around Rs 45 crore on the first weekend.
Talking to the media, Manoj Desai, who runs the G7 multiplex in Bandra and Maratha Mandir theatre at Mumbai Central, said, “I don`t remember the last time a film registered houseful collections all the way till Tuesday”.
Moreover, because of the hype created before the films’ release, fans of Salman Khan are dying to see him play a corrupt cop Chulbul ‘Robinhood’ Pandey in this film.
Speaking to a news daily, a trade analyst said, “The long festive weekend will also work to the advantage of the film. One really cannot comment on whether it will surpass 3 Idiots` collection but indications are that the film is going to be one of the biggest hits ever.”
