Mumbai: After winning numerous laurels for her ‘Peepli Live’, director Anusha Rizvi is on her way to donning the director’s hat yet again. In this case, it is renowned writer Amitav Ghosh’s ‘Sea of Poppies’ which will be seen represented on the silver screen.
Amitav Ghosh’s ‘Sea of Poppies’ was published in 2008, and was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize. Ghosh’s first book on the Ibis Trilogy is an adventure set against the backdrop of opium trade. After receiving immense appreciation from the literary firmament, Ghosh’s book has now been adapted into a screenplay, and the same will be directed into a film by Anusha Rizvi.
Confirming that she would be directing the film, the Mumbai Mantra-Sundance Institute Screenwriters Lab 2012 winner Anusha revealed to a website: “It`s a love story, a revenge saga, an adventure romance and an action drama all rolled into one, and set against the backdrop of the sea. Right now, we are trying to raise funds for the film.”
Given the incredible appreciation that the Aamir Khan production ‘Peepli Live’ has received, it wouldn’t be very wrong to say that we are on our way to watch another brilliant film. And added to it is the fact that Amitav Ghosh’s book is the base of the film. ‘Sea of Poppies’ will not disappoint its viewers. Absolute confidence there!
