New Delhi: It is not an easy task for any actor to portray a powerful and majestic a character, like that of emperor Ashoka on celluloid. The film becomes special, also when it is initiated by an international production house. A pat on back is what Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn needs right now, if reports suggesting that he has been signed to play the king in an Indio-French project, turn out to be true.
A leading daily reported that actor Ajay Devgn has been roped in by a well-known production house for playing king Ashoka, with makers hunting for an international face to play the female lead.
Incidentally, Devgn`s once arch-rival Shah Rukh Khan had played the emperor in a 2001 film titled `Asoka`, which was directed by Santosh Sivan and had Kareena Kapoor Khan in a lead role opposite SRK.
Besides Devgn, another Indian connect in this Indo-French venture is the director, who will be helming the project. The name that has cropped up is that of veteran filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi. If grapevine is anything to go by, then we might soon see Devgn as Ashoka with a Hollywood female lead on screen. Sounds interesting, we must say!
