Mumbai: Vishal Bhardwaj and Ajay Devgn, who had teamed up to make `Omkara`, one of the finest films ever produced in Bollywood have now drifted apart. The ace filmmaker had chosen Ajay for a comic film titled `Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola` opposite Anushka Sharma. But Ajay dumped Vishal for a bigger fee.
Apparently, Ajay dropped Vishal’s film for Ashwini Dhir’s ‘Son of Sardar’. The reason behind this move by the `Singham` hit maker is still unclear but if sources are to be believed, Devgn had been lured by the money Viacom 18 Motion Pictures offered him for Dhir’s project.
A source informed a daily, “Viacom bought` Son Of Sardar` for Rs 75 crore. Devgn is a 50 percent partner in the deal. The other half goes to co-producer N R Pachisia’s company.”
“Devgn had to choose between the two films. Seeing that `Son Of Sardar` was financially more satisfying, Devgn chose the project over Vishal’s,” added the source.
Bhardwaj has however not wasted any time to zero down on two A list actors to replace Devgn in the project. “An official announcement will be made next week,” revealed the source.
One may recall that Devgn had raved about Bhardwaj’s project to the media, not too long ago. He had said, “Vishal is an incredible director who has the ability to bring out the best in any actor. When Vishal told me that he was looking at creating a comedy and he narrated the script, I was immediately excited and became a part of this project in more ways than one - as an actor as well as a producer.”
However, it seems like the sentiments have failed to be honored!
