Delhi: ‘Bombay Talkies’, which sees four directors Karan Johar, Dibakar Banerjee, Anurag Kashyap and Zoya Akhtar join hands to craft a tribute to the 100 years’ history of Indian cinema, sure has an impressive narrative. The film deals with human emotions and how the Hindi film industry has been instrumental in shaping the collective psyche in the country. Zoya Akhtar’s story, meanwhile, is based on a real-life incident. It revolves around a little boy who dances to the tune of ‘Sheila ki Jawani’ all day and wishes to be like Katrina Kaif. The kid’s craze for Kaif borders on obsession. Akhtar had come across the boy some years ago at a social get-together and has been willing to portray it on celluloid ever since. The meeting with the boy had left Zoya both mesmerised and saddened. A source close to the filmmaker spoke to a daily, “It was an incident which touched Zoya’s heart... she thought this story would be ideal.” ‘Bombay Talkies’ is set to hit theatres on May 3, 2013, the day Indian cinema turns exactly 100 years old. It stars Amitabh Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Randeep Hooda, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Saqib Saleem, Katrina Kaif, etc.
