New Delhi: Actor Dweep Mithun, who made his Bollywood debut recently with romantic comedy ‘From Sydney with Love’, said his appearance in the film ‘Chokher Pani’ has paved the way for many new projects including few Hindi films.
‘Chokher Pani’ is about the Nandigram issue and Mithun, 29, played the character of a villager who somehow lands in the group of political murderers.
It was also screened at the recently concluded Berlin International Film Festival.
"I am getting many offers after `Chokher Pani`. I am lucky that people liked my performance in both the films. I have two-three offers from Bollywood which are in their nascent stage. `Chokher Pani` gave me the recognition in the industry," he told PTI.
Delhi boy Mithun bagged the offer for ‘From Sydney with Love’ when he was shooting for ‘Chokher Pani’ in Kolkata. His co-star Bidita Bag had suggested his name to director Prateek Chakraborty.
"After graduating from a film institute, I moved to Kolkata for a project, which didn`t materialize and rather landed up in `Chokher Pani`. My co-star Bidita, who was also shooting for `From Sydney...`, suggested my name to Prateek and he called me for audition," he said.
The film deals with a culture shock experienced by an Indian student in Australia. In the film, Mithun shares screen space with veteran actor Sabyasachi Chakraborty.
"It was a learning experience for me to work under such a brilliant actor. He never made me feel that I am a newcomer and always guided me," he added.
After working in many documentaries, Mithun started his career with a Bengali film ‘Shono Ekti Premer Golpo Boli’. He never restricted himself to any particular genre and bagged the opportunities which came his way.
"I always wanted to be an actor. When I was a kid, I never used to play thinking my face will be spoilt. I grew up watching both Hindi and Bengali films. I always want to do such films where I can grow as an actor," he said.
