Clooney`s `The Ides of March` to open Venice film fest

Los Angeles: Hollywood actor George Clooney`s latest directorial effort `The Ides of March` will open the 68th Venice Film Festival on August 31.

The festival is yet to announce its list but Clooney is all set to screen his political drama, also starring Ryan Gosling and Paul Giamatti, on the opening night, a website said.

The 50-year-old actor-turned-director has already taken his `The Men Who Stare at Goats` to Venice and also won several awards for his `Good Night, and Good Luck`.

`Ides...`, based on the play Farragut North by Beau Willimon, stars Clooney as a governor with presidential ambitions, Ryan Gosling as his press spokesman and Paul Giamatti as a rival campaign manager.

In addition to directing, Clooney wrote the screen adaptation with Grant Heslov and served as one of the producers.
