Los Angeles: Actor Henry Cavill, the new on screen `Superman`, had auditioned to play secret agent 007, but says Daniel Craig was a far better choice

The ‘Man of Steel’ actor was upset at missing out on the part after getting down to the final audition, but admits 45-year-old Craig, who has portrayed the iconic charter in ‘Casino Royale’, ‘Quantum of Solace’ and ‘Skyfall’, has been "fantastic" in the role.

"When I wasn`t selected for Bond, I was very disappointed,” contactmusic.com quoted Cavill as saying.

"I`d turned down a leading role in `300` because it was down to Daniel Craig and me, and auditioning for Bond took all my focus. The choice was between a younger Bond and one closer to his 40s, which is to say, Daniel Craig.

"But I`ve seen what Daniel did and I think the Bond producers made the right choice. He`s fantastic,” he added.
