Mumbai: From being a coolie to an internationally acclaimed superstar, Rajinikanth has come a long long way. And a film based on the veteran actor sounds like a venture worth undertaking. News has it that Bollywood director Atul Agnihotri plans to bring the life and times of the ‘phenomena’ called Rajini on the 70 mm!

Very rarely does an actor from down south makes an incredible mark in Bollywood. Rajinikanth is the undisputed superstar to have garnered huge fan following across India and his style remains an all time hit.

For someone who has temples built in his honour’ who features in Forbes magazine’s most influential Indian of 2010 and is a sensation not just in the subcontinent but around the globe, a biopic of the ‘star’ was long awaited.

A source close to director Agnihotri confirmed, “Atul is already busy working on his next, which will be a biopic of Rajinikanth. The south star has given his consent too, so the film is expected to go on floors soon.”

Talking about the cast for this ambitious project, the source said, “Nobody has been finalised yet, but Rajnikanth will not be a part of the film. For now, Atul has zeroed in on new director, Llyod Baptista, who has directed some international ads and has been working in India for some time.”

If all goes as planned, this will be the first ever biopic of an actor in the history of Indian Cinema. Earlier, UTV was keen on making a biopic on Kishore Kumar but sadly the project failed to take off.
