Emraan Hashmi offered to play Charles Sobhraj

New Delhi: Emraan Hashmi, who essayed the role of a don loosely inspired by Dawood Ebrahim in `Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai`, was offered to play alleged serial killer Charles Sobhraj but the actor turned it down.

Director Prawal Raman, who has directed films like `Loot`, `Zabardast`, `Gayab` and `Darna Mana Hai`, wants to bring the life of Sobhraj onscreen and wanted Emraan to play the role.

Emraan, however, declined the offer because he did not want to play another negative character so soon.

"Emraan does not see the point of doing another role on the same lines. He does not want to be type-casted in any particular role. Not that he will never do another role like that of Shoaib but he wants some gap," said a source close to the actor.

Sobhraj, who is a French citizen and is of Indian and Vietnamese origin, is serving a life sentence in Nepal for the murder of an American tourist in 1975.

The 66-year-old is alleged to have killed 12 people across Asia in the 70s, earning the moniker of `serpent or bikini killer`.

His life has inspired many books including `The Life and Crimes of Charles Sobhraj` by Richard Neville and Julie Clarke, `Serpentine` by Thomas Thompson and `The Bikini
Murders` by Farrukh Dhondy`.
