Gael Garcia Bernal to work in an Indian movie

Mumbai: Acclaimed Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal, known for movies like `The Motorcycle Diaries`, `Amores Perros` and `Babel`, is in talks to star in an Indian

"We have approached the 31-year-old actor to play Lucian, a priest in our upcoming movie `The Stamp Collector`. He has loved the script and other details are being worked out," producer Sanjay Bhattacharyajee told reporters.

"Nothing has been finalised yet, but I hope to meet him soon," Sanjay said.

For those who have joined late, Bernal has portrayed Argentine revolutionary Che Guevara twice, first in a TV series `Fidel` and later in the movie, `The Motorcyle Diaries`.

He played Octavio in Mexican movie `Amores Perros`, who is in love with his sister-in-law, Susana. Their story, `Octavio and Susana` forms the first part of this anthology film.

`The Stamp Collector` is based on Vishwapriya Iyenger`s acclaimed short story `No Letter From Mother`.

Besides Bernal, it would star three more big international stars, Sanjay said.

The project, to be helmed by American filmmaker, Francesca Di Amico, would be made on budget not more than USD 10 million, he said.

"It would be an international movie set in the backdrop of Partition, made in English with a bit of Hindi and Punjabi," he said.

Sanjay Bhattacharyajee has independently produced movies like `Amu`, `Bombay Summer`, `Manorama Six Feet Under`, `Quick Gun Murugan`, and `Frozen`.

He, in association with model and actress Sushama Reddy, in 2009 formed Seven Island Studios Pvt Ltd and recently released `Dus Tola` was their first venture.

"Besides `The Stamp Collector`, we are also working on a laugh riot, `National Roaming`. It would be a Bollywood film with ensemble star cast," Sanjay added.
