New Delhi: Actress Gul Panag, who stars in the upcoming film `Hello Darling, a light hearted take on sexual harassment at workplace, is surprised by an `A` certificate to the movie.
The makers claim that the content of this film backed by Subhash Ghai is not explicit in nature but the Censor board believed that it should be viewed only by adults.
"Honestly, the fact that `Hello Darling` has been given an `A` certificate came as a news for me. When I last spoke to my director (Manoj Tiwari), we thought that the film was getting a `U/A` certificate. Now that I am told that it is for adults only, I am really surprised," says Panag who has worked in an adult comedy titled `Straight`.
"`Hello Darling` definitely carries a theme of sexual harassment but then it doesn`t have anything overtly sexual. I haven`t seen the entire film though but based on what I have shot, I know for sure that the aesthetics have been maintained," says the actress.
However, the fact remains that many in the outside world are perceiving `Hello Darling` to be a sex comedy. What does Gul have to say in that regard?
"Please don`t enter theaters expecting another `Kya Kool Hain Hum`. This film by no means is a sex comedy. There could be sexual innuendos here or there that do make the protagonists feel uncomfortable. But there isn`t anything on your face, whether visually or verbally."
Commenting on the theme itself being quite provocative, Gul says, "I don`t know how people can get enticed in such a manner with just the plotline and word `sex`. The focus here is on sexual harassment which happens inside the room, not something which is done openly."
In `Hello Darling`, Gul plays the character of Mansi Joshi, a research head in a company. Though she is a well performing employee who has good contributions to her company, she can`t move up the ladder because she refuses to succumb to the demands of her boss. No wonder, she is a frustrated woman.
"This is not an issue which is something new and actually happens in most professions. It has been around for ages. In fact as long as women are out there in open, there is always a chance of them getting harassed. It is a reality and we can`t escape that."
Talking about her choice of films, Gul says she is happy to be mixing up her masala outings with offbeat cinema.
"I like a mix of everything in fact", smiles Gul, "I have had been part of films like `Rann`, `Dor`, `Manorama – Six Feet Under` and `Dhoop` and I am extremely proud of them. Similarly, I am proud of films like `Hello` and now `Hello Darling` which would be seeing me in a glam look. I am a hot, hip and a sexy chic and I am proud of that."
Starring Javed Jaffrey in the role of a pervert boss who is taught a lesson by the trio of Gul, Celina and Eesha,`Hello Darling` also features Chunky Pandey and Divya Dutta in
important roles and releases all over on 27th August.
