New Delhi: Director Rajkumar Gupta, who is known for his movies like `No One Killed Jessica` and `Aamir`, says he would never make a film based on political issues as it often sparks a controversy.
"A filmmaker has to go through a lot if some individual or party takes the movie personally. I fear that situation. I remember how sad it was when Anurag Kashyap`s `Black Friday` was banned.
"A director fears such situations as it is very painful. If a film does not release after it has been worked on for years, then it not only brings financial difficulties to those associated with the project but also raises question on the career of the filmmaker. I cannot go through that pain," said Rajkumar on the sidelines of Cine Bahas Talab 2013.
The director was taking part in a discussion on `Hurdles in the way of political films in India` at the event.
"Phas Gaye Re Obama" and "Jolly LLB" famed director Subhash Kapoor believes despite the difficulties, Bollywood has often tried to portray political issues on the big screen.
"I think we have made great political films like 1973`s `Garm Hava` and `Lage Raho Munna Bhai` among others. Hindi Cinema has been working on a formula to reflect the social problems of the society in films," Subhash said.
`Chak De India` actress Shilpa Shukla wishes to see more films like `Black Friday`.
"I totally agree that a filmmaker goes through a hard time to make a good political film. But if once made, the audience gets a chance to see great films. I would say if we put in a little courage, we can get miraculous films," she said.
