Imtiaz recommended Raja Chaudhary`s name: ‘Antardwand’ director

Director Sushil Rajpal says it was director Imtiaz Ali, who suggested `Gulal` actor Raja Chaudhary`s name for his national-award-winning film `Antardwand`, a film on groom abduction in Bihar.

New Delhi: Director Sushil Rajpal says it was director Imtiaz Ali, who suggested `Gulal` actor Raja Chaudhary`s name for his national-award-winning film `Antardwand`, a film on groom abduction in Bihar.
Ali not only suggested Chaudhary`s name but also decided to step up the promotions of the small budget film. The director, who also hails from Jamshedpur, promoted the film dressed as a groom. "It was Imtiaz who first told me about Raja. He had seen his work in Anurag Kashyap`s `Gulal` and told me to cast him in this movie," Rajpal told reporters. Rajpal`s film, releasing tomorrow, won the 55th national award for best film on a social issue. "It is just not about the forced marriage. The trauma that the groom and the bride go through because of this kind of marriage is the focus of my film. Dowry and a feudal society are responsible for this," says Rajpal, who is also the producer of the movie. Rajpal said his film is inspired by a true story. "It is not something that I picked up as a subject. Something like this happened to my friend and he went through hell. That`s what inspired me to make a film on a subject like this, which unfortunately does not get highlighted in media," he says. PTI
