International Film Festival of Kerala starts from tomorrow

Thiruvananthapuram: The 15th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) beginning here tomorrow would feature six films screened in the competition section of the Cannes festival this year.

The Sofia Koppola fim, `Somewhere` that won the Golden Lion award at the Venice film festival this year would also be part of the festival.

`White Ribbon,` the Palm d`Or winner at Cannes by Michael Haneke last year is also going to be an attraction at the IFFK.

The films that was screened in Cannes include the winner this year `Uncle Boohomee who can recall his past lives` by Apichatpong Weerasethukal. Mike Leigh`s comedy drama `Another Year` will also be screened.

Films of Iranian film-maker Abbas Kiarosami (Certified copy) and Mexican director Alejandro Gonzales Innaritu (Butiful) after his classic `Ameros Perros` would be the other attractions of the festival.

`Film Socialisme,` by legendary film-maker 80 year-old Jean Luc Godard will be an important film to watch at the IFFK. Godard`s last film was premiered in the `Uncertain Regard` section at Cannes this year.

Portugese director Manoel de Oliviera will also make his presence at the festival with his movie `The strong case of Angelica.`

The IFFK would be inaugurated by Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan in the presence of veteran actor Waheeda Rahman and German director Werner Herzog.
