Mumbai: Post the Box Office success of ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara,’ Farhan Akhtar seems to have replaced Akshay Kumar in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.’
Apparently, Farhan, who has never acted or directed films outside his home production banner Excel Entertainment, will play ace Indian athlete Milkha Singh in the film.
Not long ago, Mehra was keen to cast Akshay Kumar in the lead role after the athlete himself expressed his wishes for the same. Milkha had said, “I strongly feel that my role should be played by Akshay Kumar. Being a Punjab da puttar, he has the right physique and also acts well.”
However, Mehra had then said, “Perhaps the spoken language will be one, and that would be what Milka speaks in real life, Punjabi, Hindi or English. But I`d like to make the film for a global audience.”
Talking to a daily, a source said, “Farhan is an extremely fit guy. He likes to do roles that challenge his acting skills to the maximum. To get into the character of Milkha Singh is not going to be easy either.”
Mehra has signed lyricist Prasoon Joshi to write the story for ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.’ The film will trace the life and times of Milkha Singh, right from his childhood to his yore.
When contacted, Farhan was not available and Mehra neither confirmed nor denied the news as he simply said, “I am still finalising the casting of ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.’”
