It’s official, block buster ‘Kaante’ to finally have a sequel
Mumbai: Though a rip-off of Hollywood’s ‘Reservoir Dogs’, Bollywood’s ‘Kaante’ managed to find its place in the stature of cult cinema in India. And now the buzz has it that a sequel of ‘Kaante’ is in the offing.
Sources confirm that the multi-starrer action bonanza will be co-produced by Sanjay Dutt Productions and Pritish Nandy Communications. It is also been revealed that while most of the cast has been retained, director Sanjay Gupta has been shown the door.
Talking to a daily, Sanjay Dutt said, “When Pritish came to me and narrated a line on Kaante 2, I flipped. It will be bigger and better than the original and will be one of the biggest action films shot abroad. Sanjay Gupta won`t direct the sequel. We have a famous director on board.”
Pritish Nandy further added, “Sanju had approached me first with ‘Kaante’. Gupta came on board later. Sanju and I have been planning ‘Kaante 2’ for a while. The idea is to use the original people in the cast, maybe barring Lucky Ali. Though the characters died in the film we have devised a technique to use the same actors. The sequel will also have a few young stars to give the film a different texture. We plan to begin shooting early next year.”
Revealing more he said, “The first draft of the script will be ready within a fortnight. We will put in place the cast immediately thereafter. We are already in discussions with everyone. This will be our biggest production ever.”
Sanjay Dutt Productions CEO Dharam Oberoi says, “When Pritish came to us he said the title was with him and he wanted to make ‘Kaante 2’. The sequel will be a concept film, just like the original was.”
Well, ‘Kaante’ sure helped in establishing a more evolved action genre in Hindi films back in 2002, it would be interesting to see what the same team has to offer with ‘Kaante 2’.
