Mumbai: From Abhishek Kapoor, who directed ‘Rock On!’, comes another film focussing on male bonding – ‘Kai Po Che!’. But he says they have both been different experiences.
Kapoor insists the experience of making ‘Kai Po Che’, was like directing ‘Rock On!’ "three times over".
However, he said the similarity ended there. ‘Kai Po Che’, he contended, "has a much wider story".
"Characters come from the different social backdrops and this (`Kai Po Che`) is more middle-class, hardcore, deep-rooted India and that (`Rock On!`) was very urban - so their sensibilities are very different," said Kapoor.
"The way they (the characters) respond and react to each other is very different, their value systems are very different, and more than anything else, it is a much bigger and wider story. `Kai Po Che` was like making three `Rock Ons`," said Kapoor, who made his directorial debut in 2006 with "Aryan", a film that won him critical acclaim, but bombed at the box-office.
It was in 2008 that he wrote and directed "Rock On!", the commercially and critically successful film that marked the acting debut of Farhan Akhtar.
"Kai Po Che" marks the big screen debut of TV actor Sushant Singh Rajput, and also stars Amit Sadh, Rajkumar Yadav and Amrita Puri. It is slated to release Jan 11, 2013.
