Kashmir`s BWF kids to take part in children`s film festival

Jammu: Kashmir`s Border World Foundation children will take part in the 16th International Children`s Film Festival being held in the historic city of Hyderabad in from November 14.

"Borderless World Foundation (BWF) children will participate in Golden Elephant 16th International Children`s Film Festival being held in Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh during November 14-20," A BWF spokesman said.

The festival, also known as Golden Elephant in India, is organised by Children Films Societies of India (CFSI) to promote a flourishing cinema for children through films of superior thematic and stylistic value deserving international attention. The 16th edition of the festival will be organised in association with the Government of Andhra Pradesh.

"Our children have been invited by the CFSI and their expenses are being paid by them including their travel, food and stay," he said, adding that this will be a very enriching experience for the children since they will get a chance to watch the films made especially for their age group as well as interact with the filmmakers and other children as well.

"We believe there will be special events for children other than film screenings. The complete details of the schedule are expected soon but we are already preparing for the travel," he said.

Rajani from Jammu, Anamika from Delhi will accompany them during the travel and Nitin will join them in Hyderabad from day one, he said.

BWF runs five residential homes for the children of the militancy victims in Jammu and Kashmir.

The festival is aimed to bring together and promote films from all over the world, whose main purpose is to entertain and educate children and to help them acquire a more critical appreciation of the art of filmmaking.

It is to encourage the exchange of ideas between filmmakers and children with special attention to those films, which attempt to foster an awareness of problems faced by children and adolescents and to exhibit the best film for children showing artistic and humanitarian qualities, which will lead to better understanding between people and cultures.

The Festival comprises of sections like International Competition, Asian Panorama, Children`s World - non-competitive section, Retrospectives and Special Screenings, Creative workshops (animation) and Special events for children.
