Matt Damon to star in Whitey Bulger biopic directed by Ben Affleck

London: Matt Damon is set to star as notorious mobster Whitey Bulger in a Hollywood movie to be directed by his friend Ben Affleck.

They will team up for the first time since they won an Oscar for Best Screenplay for ‘Good Will Hunting.

“We’re doing a Whitey Bulger movie,” the Daily Mail quoted Damon as telling GQ magazine.

Bulger was the leader of South Boston’s Winter Hill Gang.

He was wanted for 19 murders and had been on the FBI’s most wanted list for 16 years.

Bulger, 82, was arrested in Santa Monica, California, in June with his long-term girlfriend Catherine Greig, on a tip off given by his neighbour to FBI.

Throughout the 16 years that he was hiding from the authorities Bulger used 15 aliases and was able to elude police by living a quiet life and rarely venturing out.

Production on the Whitey Bulger movie is expected to start next year.
