Rakeysh Mehra’s Bollywood docu-drama goes to Cannes
Mumbai: Now there is an added reason why Indians should follow the Cannes Film Festival commencing on 11th May, next month. Included in the list of ‘Out of Competition’ section a documentary directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Jeffrey Zimbalist, ‘Bollywood – The Greatest Love Story Ever Told’ is all set to represent India at the international forum.
Last year it was Vikramaditya Motwane’s ‘Udaan’, which made it to the Cannes. The film won many appreciations by jury members and accolades from the viewers alike.
Being selected at Cannes is a like a dream come true for many filmmakers, but Mehra likes to play it ubercool. Speaking to a daily, Mehra said, "We put our best foot forward, it got selected and that`s it.”
The film`s team includes Shekhar Kapur who, as a member of the Cannes International Jury in 2010, suggested making "a film that brings together the most beautiful moments in the history of Indian musical films". UTV`s Trishya and Ronnie Screwvala backed him as producers.
On being questioned if co-director Jeffrey Zimbalist brought in to keep the Western sensibility in mind when making the film? To which Mehra, said, "It`s not about the Western or Indian viewpoint. We were just two people working on the film."
The film plays alongside Jodie Foster`s ‘The Beaver’ and Rob Marshall`s ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ in the Out of Competition section.
