Ranveer Singh dumps old friend Shaad Ali’s film
Mumbai: Who said success doesn’t come at a price, for take the classic case of ‘Band Baaja Baraat’ sensation Ranveer Singh.
Buzz has it that Ranveer Singh, who tasted success with his first film, chose Maneesh Sharma’s ‘Ladies V/S Ricky Bhal’ instead of old friend Shaad Ali’s next.
Apparently, Ranveer, who is on a career-high, is alienating himself from many of his close friends. Talking to a daily, a source from the industry said, “‘Band Baaja Baraat’ has changed Ranveer’s fortunes but he has now made himself completely inaccessible to prospective producers. Even the most prominent moviemakers are expected to go through Ranveer’s business manager, while still risking being turned down.”
It is believed that Ranveer is in constant touch with his mentor Aditya Chopra and has reportedly told his close friends that he will not do any films outside YRF banner for at least three years. However, Ranveer has completely forgotten Shaad Ali’s project.
Interestingly, Ranveer and Shaad go back a long way. Ranveer assisted Shaad in directing ‘Jhoom Baraabar Jhoom’ and soon the two became thick friends.
“Shaad showed Ranveer around in the industry, introduced him to important filmmakers. Ranveer has come this far partly because of Shaad’s support,” added the source.
Shaad’s last outing, ‘Jhoom Barabar Jhoom’ was a Box Office dud and at a time when Ranveer’s help could have pulled Shaad’s fortunes out of the doldrums, the actor chose Maneesh Sharma’s ‘Ladies V/S Ricky Bahl.’
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for YRF said, “We never announced a film with Shaad Ali featuring Ranveer Singh. Everyone else did. Yes, Shaad is going to make a film for Yash Raj but no timeline or cast has been finalised as yet.”
