Mumbai: He is touted as the next big thing in Bollywood and has proved his worth by delivering spellbinding performances in films like ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Barfi!’.
But the trailer of Ranbir Kapoor’s latest, ‘Beshsaram’ has irked fans of industry heavyweights Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan as they feel that Ranbir’s jibes at their respective idols in the film’s trailer are derogatory.
The trailer in question shows the young actor humming ‘Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jaana Sanam’ while attending the nature’s call in a mustard field. This has irked fans of Shah Rukh Khan on whom the song was originally picturised.
Moreover, diehard fans of Salman Khan were offended after seeing Ranbir saying - ‘Sirf Chulbul naam rakhne se koi Dabangg nahi ban jaata’ (One does not become fearless just by naming himself Chulbul) - to Rishi Kapoor, who will be seen playing a cop in the film. Salman had essayed the role of inspector Chulbul Pandey in 2010 blockbuster ‘Dabangg’, a character that became an instant hit for being a fearless demeanour.
The ‘Besharam’ promo has been disliked by as many as 6000 people on YouTube thereby substantiating the fact that fans of Salman and Shah Rukh are mighty peeved with it. Many viewers have left strong comments against the film’s trailer.
However, filmmaker Abhinav Kashyap seems to be least affected by the negative response.
“I have just two moments — one from my own film Dabangg. In one scene, Rishi Kapoor who plays a cop is called Chulbul so Ranbir says ‘sirf naam Chulbul hone se koi Dabangg nahi ban jaata’. And the other where Ranbir is shown taking a leak in the fields and humming Tujhe Dekha Toh... I have taken the rights to the song. There is nothing offensive, the film is about an irreverent guy. Some fans have taken it personally and are coming up with atrocious comments. We are not perturbed by it,” DNA quoted the director as saying.
