Mumbai: Salman Khan struck the purple patch in his two-decade long career after Prabhudeva’s directorial venture ‘Wanted’ in 2009 gave the hunk of an actor the much needed boost at the Box Office.
And since then, the heartthrob of millions has had a roller-coaster ride. ‘Dabangg’ that released in the subsequent year set a new benchmark and helped the film rake in the moolah. The film also marked the debut of Sonakshi Sinha, Salman’s protégé, who has now become one of the most sought after actresses in the Tinsel Town.
2011 was a year to reckon for all the Salman Khan fans as they saw not one but two films releasing- ‘Ready’ and ‘Bodyguard’. Both the films turned out to massive hits, thereby making Salman the ruler of the Box Office.
Producers’ hot favourite Salman teamed up with the reputed Yash Raj Banner for the first time in the following year to deliver ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, a film that broke a number of records. The Kabir Khan directorial venture featuring Salman and his former ladylove Katrina Kaif took the Box Office by storm.
And in December came ‘Dabangg 2’ (sequel to the first installment ‘Dabangg’) which too did great business and sort of reserved the King’s chair for the actor.
The actor took a break in 2013 and then returned to the silverscreen with ‘Jai Ho’ in 2014. The film failed to impress the critics but succeeded in entering the Rs 100 crore club, a milestone that measures a film’s success in terms of its business collection.
But Salman’s Eid release- ‘Kick’, which hit the big screen last Friday, is on the verge of shattering many a Box Office records.
The film is inching closer to the prestigious Rs 100 crore club. And it would b interesting to see if ‘Kick’ derails Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Chennai Express’ and beats Aamir Khan’s ‘Dhoom 3’.
