New Delhi: Shah Rukh Khan – who has worked with debutants like Anushka Sharma in the past - had apparently suggested Sushant Singh Rajput’s girlfriend, Ankita Lokhande`s name to Farah Khan for her upcoming film ‘Happy New Year’.

According to a tabloid, Shah Rukh spotted the TV star at the recently concluded IIFA awards event in Macau and suggested her name to Farah Khan for ‘Happy New Year’. Shah Rukh will be playing the male lead in the aforementioned film.

“Several names, including that of Katrina Kaif, have been doing the rounds. SRK spotted Ankita with Sushant at Macau,” a source said.

If rumours are anything to go by, then the actor felt that Ankita would best fit the role of a Maharashtrian girl.

“He spoke to Farah. Once Ankita came back, she met the director and has now apparently signed on the dotted line,” the source added.

The 28-year-old TV actress became a household name after playing the role of Archana Manav Deshmukh in Ekta Kapoor`s path-breaking Indian soap opera, ‘Pavitra Rishta’ on Zee TV .

Sushant Singh Rajput – who won a lot of acclaim for his debut movie ‘Kai Po Che!’ – also got his big break in the TV industry by starring opposite Ankita in ‘Pavitra Rishta’.
