Mumbai: There is fair chance that you can see Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol at the Oscars this year, courtesy Karan Johar’s ‘My Name Is Khan’. According to the latest buzz KJo’s MNIK starring Shah Rukh and Kajol has found its way on the Reminder List of Productions Eligible for the 83rd Academy Awards. Karan’s genre-defining political romance focusing on the tribulations of Muslim community post 9/11 in United States made us all sit back and take notice. Taking the world by storm, MNIK was an absolute winner at the overseas Box Office. Reports confirm that with MNIK’s name featuring on the official list of eligibility could make the film easily lend itself to a number of nominations, and not just the Best Foreign Picture category. The onus to that reportedly goes to the excellent distribution handled by global production giant, FOX Star Entertainment. Seemingly overjoyed, Karan Johar said to a daily, “MNIK started off as a movement and it`s heartening to hear that today it`s in the broad list of films eligible to be in the running in all categories.” Sharing his excitement with media, he further added, “I am deeply honoured that MNIK has that kind on acceptance level on a global platform and it`s the only Indian film to enter this list. Whether it will be selected or not depends on many factors including luck but it`s wonderful to know that people all over the world have loved MNIK so much that they felt it should be eligible enough to be an entry." Well, the result notwithstanding, MNIK making into the list of Oscar hopefuls should be reason enough for any Indian to regale.
