New Delhi: Entertainment content house Shemaroo has come out with a series of titles of Dev Anand under its `vintage black and white classics` including "Teen Deviyan" and "Asli Naqli" as a tribute to the late actor.
‘Teen Deviyan’ (1965), also starring Nanda, Simi Garewal, Kalpana and I S Johar and produced and directed by Amar Jeet, became popular for its songs.
The famous duo of lyricist Majrooh Sultanpuri and music director S D Burman gave songs like `Aise to na dekho` (Mohammad Rafi), `Likha hai teri` (Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar), `Are yaar meri` (Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle), `Khwab ho ya koi haqeeqat` (Kishore Kumar), `Kaye be khayal hoke` (Mohammad Rafi) and `Kitni Sardi` (Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar).
In "Teen Deviyan", Dev Anand plays the role of a poet who works in a music store owned by Johar. In the times to come, he befriends three women ? Nanda, a steno-typist at a corporate office; a famous actress Kalpana and socialite Simi. But finally, he chooses Nanda as his life partner.
On the other hand, "Asli Naqli" is a wonderful take on life and love by directed Hrishikesh Mukherjee and starring Dev Anand, Sadhana Shivdasani, Leela Chitnis, Nazir Hussain, Anwar Hussain, Sandhya Roy and Keshto Mukherjee. The music was scored by Shankar Jaikishan and lyrics by Hasrat Jaipuri.
In the film, Dev Anand plays the role of a young grandson of the rich Nazir Hussain who has everything people crave for - money, comfort, friends and girl. But he still experiences a strange vacuum. Fed up with his aimless existence, he goes away from home to find the meaning of his life.
In this process, he comes across a number of people who are ready to accept him as one of their own ? the idealistic and young Sadhana whose selfless love gives Anand hope; Anwar Hussain who accepts him as a brother and so on.
In them, Anand finds the fullness of his life and a road to real happiness. But will he able to forget his grandfather and luxurious life he once led? Will his earlier friends and acquaintances allow him to stay away? Ultimately, it`s love that wins.
Shankar Jaikishan gave some great songs in this film. `Tujhe jeevan ki dor se` (Rafi, Lata), `Tera mera pyar amar` (Lata), `Chheda mera dil ne tarana` (Rafi), `Kal ki daulat aaj ki khushian (Rafi), `Lakh chhupao chhup na sakega` (Lata), `Pyar ka saaz bhi hai` (Rafi), `Gori zara hans de tu` (Rafi) and `Ek but banaoonga` (Rafi).
