Stars dominating Malayalam cinema: Venu Nagavally

The time of directors with `guts` has almost ended in Malayalam cinema with the dominance of superstars, but it is not fair to divide the industry, film-maker and actor Venu Nagavally said.

Thiruvananthapuram, March 02: The time of directors with `guts` has almost ended in Malayalam cinema with the dominance of superstars, but it is not fair to divide the industry, film-maker and actor Venu Nagavally said.Addressing a meet-the-press programme arranged by the Press Club here, he said a director would not want a producer to lose money for the film he had produced.
Production boys who work overtime for a film should also be taken care of, he said. Small films should be encouraged. However, superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty asking for high rates was the result of their own hard work, he said. On his latest film `Bharya Swantham Suhruthu` (Wife is the best friend), he said the director should have the freedom to do what he likes to make a good film. Padmasree award-winning actor Thilakan, who plays a key role in the film, said fans associations, should not dictate to the audience about a good movie, which would reach the audience naturally.
