Dubai: Shahid Kapoor, who was forced to promote his film ‘Teri Meri Kahaani’ without his co-star Priyanka Chopra, considers it “a refreshing love story with a new concept”.
“It’s like three stories in one and all those who believe in love should be able to connect to the film. Priyanka and I are doing a ‘triple’ role,” the Gulf News quoted him as saying.
“Kunal had a very interesting take: ‘What would it be like if I’m supposedly in love with the same girl for the past seven lifetimes, without even knowing it? What would the story be like in my last life or my next life?’ It is a story of soul mates.
“Other actors could have played the characters but we wanted to do all three and Kunal obliged,” he added.
The film has the actors as a couple in the years 1910, 1960 and 2012.
Krish, Shahid’s modern day character, “is the one I can say is the closest to what I am. But I love Javed, my character in 1910. He is a poet and a lovable flirt,” he said.
“I think the three time zones really help because it’s three different clothing, different people and different thinking,” he said.
Meanwhile, director Kunal Kohli said that he always loved making “different” films.
“I always believe in challenging myself. Hum Tum, Fanah and Teri Meri Kahaani are all very different from each other,” Kohli said.
Kohli, Kapoor and Bahri all insist that the film is not about reincarnation.
“What’s interesting is Kunal is not trying to force a connection between the stories,” Shahid said.
“We just want you to see three different stories that connect quite seamlessly to each other because it’s basically about two people in love. It’s a romantic comedy,” he added.
The 31-year-old actor said at a press conference on Wednesday, that he was “happy” to be in Dubai as “it’s the first place all our movies are released and this is where we get the first responses”.
“UAE has really grown as market in the last three-four years,” he said.
Piggy Chops was scheduled to join Kapoor, director Kunal Kohli and producer Vicky Bahri, but had to cancel her appearance at the last moment to be with her brother in Mumbai, who was hospitalised with chest pains the same day.
