Mumbai: Singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan launched writer P V Subramaniam’s book ‘Dictionary of English: The Udder Side’ at a high-profile event held at Bungalow 9 in Mumbai.

Published by Fingerprint! Publications, the book is a light-hearted version of the English dictionary.

The book is a huge collection of redefined words highlighting the pliability of the English language, and the pleasures of interpretation. The book is peppered with apt illustrations rendered by a British cartoonist, Mark Wood.

The gala event was attended by singer Sona Mahaptara and her music-composer husband Ram Sampat of the ‘Delhi Belly’ and ‘Talaash’ fame. Hosted by radio-jockey Siddharth Kannan, the event saw the guests share a laugh over the various interpretations in the dictionary.

“It is such a super feeling when a dear friend and a successful dentist comes out with something so innovative and fresh! Playing with words is like combining different notes in music. I think this will be the first dictionary that people will read linearly from beginning to the end!! It is so important to have the cushioning of humour in ones life for a smooth run. Kudos to PV for making our smiles even more sensational!” Shankar Mahadevan said.

P V Subramaniam, a dentist by profession and author of the book, said, “I am very happy with the encouraging response that I have received for the book. I hope everyone enjoys reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.”
