Paris: UNESCO will hold its second World Forum on Culture and Cultural Industries (FOCUS 2011) from June 6-8 in the Italian city of Monza, it was announced Monday. The forum will discuss challenges facing the global publishing industry.
The theme of the FOCUS 2011 is Book tomorrow: the future of the written word, the Paris-based organization said.
About 250 experts, publishers and other stakeholders will participate, Xinhua reported. Discussions on e-book economy, copyright, new media and digital library will be held.
"The objective of the meeting is to provide a highly visible, authoritative and global platform for discussing and exploring solutions to the principle challenges facing the diverse realms of publishing (traditional and electronic), and reading today," the organizer said in a statement.
Cultural industry needs a new developing mode in the context that traditional books and e-books co-exist in the same world, said Milagros del Corral, president of the FOCUS 2011 organizing committee.
Unesco organised its first FOCUS in Monza Sep 24-26 in 2009.
