Horror novel ‘Sitter’ headed to big screen

Los Angeles: ‘The Sitter,’ a novel by horror writer RL Stine, will be adapted as a feature film to be titled ‘The Au Pair.’

Ghost House Pictures, the joint venture between filmmaker Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Mandate Pictures` Nathan Kahane, has picked up movie rights to the book.

‘Au Pair’ follows a young woman who runs from a troubled relationship by spending a fun-filled, romantic summer as a nanny in a posh Hamptons beach house. The dream job takes a frightening turn when she uncovers a dark secret that haunts her and the kids she has sworn to protect.

The book was published in July 2003.

Ghost House has tapped Dana Stevens, who worked with Raimi on 1999`s ‘For Love of the Game,’ to write the adaptation.

Stevens also created the TV series ‘What About Brian’ and wrote ‘City of Angels’ and ‘Life or Something Like It.’
