Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter in `Great Expectations`?
London: Hollywood star Ralph Fiennes and Helena Bonham Carter have been approached to star in the big screen version of Charles Dickens classic `Great Expectations`.
The film will be directed by Mike Newell and the actor is in talks to essay the role of mysterious Magwitch while Carter is also in discussions to portray Miss Havisham, the Daily Mail reported.
Newell has cast Jeremy Irvine, who stars in Steven Spielberg`s version of War Horse, as Pip, the protagonist of the story.
Rooney Mara was initially approached to play the cold-hearted Estella but her commitment to `The Girl in Dragon Tattoo` forced her to drop out of the project.
Fiennes will next be seen in the screen adaptation of Coriolanus. He is also starring Trevor Nunn`s version of The Tempest, which begins performances at the Theatre Royal Haymarket from August 27 and runs through till October 29.
Newell wants to shoot Great Expectations on locations in and around London from late August, so if Fiennes did agree to be in the film, he`d have to shoot his scenes during the day and then go off to play Prospero in the evening.
Fiennes is also in talks to star in Sam Mendes` Bond film, and there are several other film projects that the actor is keen to do.
Carter is off to film her scenes for Tim Burton`s next movie `Dark Shadows`, which begins shooting from the middle of next month.
